Biomethane Station Data December 2025

“Biomethane is the most scalable and commercially viable solution for immediate decarbonisation of heavy transport, offering lower fuel costs without subsidies. In 2025, this was reflected in continued strong volume growth driven by more Bio-CNG trucks on the road, including initial deliveries of the larger 6x2 trucks. Our customers, such as the UK's number one bakery brand Warburtons, continue to expand their biomethane fuelled fleets, and with three new high-capacity stations set to open in 2026, we are building on this momentum,” said Philip Fjeld, CEO and co-founder of ReFuels.
In addition to Bio-CNG dispensing, CNG Fuels generates revenue from sales of Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates (RTFCs). The average RTFC price in December was 28.6 pence, up from 24.4 pence in December 2024. RTFCs are awarded at a rate of 3.8 certificates per kilo of Bio-CNG dispensed and sold to fuel suppliers with a blending obligation under the UK's Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme.
CNG Fuels supplies biomethane through a growing network of refuelling stations, currently operating 16 public access Bio-CNG stations strategically located on major UK trucking routes. Two additional stations are under development – one in South Wales and one in Swindon – to further expand network capacity.
ReFuels provides monthly operational updates, normally released within ten working days after the end of each month.
